It has been another busy month here at Peaslake Free School, filled with creativity, curiosity and a few surprises — including our first snowfall of the season today!
The children were absolutely thrilled. Laughter filled the playground as they watched the flakes settle and enjoyed the magic of a snowy morning together.
The children recently enjoyed a lively Diwali Dance workshop led by a visiting dance teacher, with plenty of twirling, smiling and rhythmic movement. To continue their learning about festivals and traditions, the children in Reception also made their own clay Diwa lamps, decorating them beautifully to celebrate the Festival of Light.

Across the school, we came together to mark Remembrance Day with a quiet and thoughtful visit to the village memorial. We also held a mufti day to raise funds for Children in Need — an opportunity for the children to think about kindness, generosity and supporting others.

Oak Class have been especially engaged in their Design and Technology work this month. They have been learning about levers and linkages by designing and constructing their own “chomping monsters”. Using card, split pins and plenty of imagination, the children created fantastic moving mechanisms that bring their creatures to life. Their creativity, concentration and problem-solving skills have been wonderful to see.
In Literacy, Oak Class have been enjoying Nibbles the Book Monster by Emma Yarlett. Nibbles’ mischievous antics have sparked imaginative writing across the class, inspiring stories, descriptions and lively discussions. The children are now looking forward to taking part in a national drawing competition, where they will design and illustrate their very own monsters.
With Nativity song practice in full swing and snow falling from the sky, the magic of the winter season has begun.
