Autumn Creativity and Storytelling
There has been plenty of creativity, imagination and excitement at Peaslake Free School over the past few weeks! With autumn well underway, the children have been exploring the changing seasons, getting creative with different materials and finding inspiration for their learning in some unexpected places.
Funny Faces in Pine Class
During October, Pine Class have been busy exploring self-portraits and discovering that art doesn't always need paint, pencils or paper!
The children were introduced to the work of artist Hanoch Piven, who creates wonderfully imaginative portraits using everyday objects. Inspired by his unusual approach, the children had great fun experimenting with different materials to create faces of their own.
Before long, faces were popping up everywhere! From carefully arranged collections of objects to playdough creations decorated with wool, pipe cleaners and other materials, the children showed just how inventive they could be. It was lovely to see this interest spilling over into their independent play, with lots of opportunities to explore facial features, expressions and different ways of representing themselves and others.
Who's Been Visiting Pine Class?
When Pine Class returned to school after the half-term break, they discovered something rather mysterious waiting for them. Somebody had left behind a bag containing straw, sticks and bricks!
Who could it possibly belong to?
The children were quick to put their detective skills to work and soon suspected that the Three Little Pigs might have paid them a visit!
This exciting discovery provided a wonderful introduction to the familiar traditional tale. The children have enjoyed sharing the story and using it as inspiration for their own writing, including some very important posters warning everyone to BEWARE OF THE WOLF!
It's been a lovely example of how a little mystery can capture children's imaginations and bring storytelling and writing to life.
Autumn Colours at Forest School
Meanwhile, Oak Class have been making the most of the beautiful autumn surroundings during their Forest School sessions.
Taking inspiration from the rich colours of the season, the children enjoyed painting outdoors, using the natural world around them to inspire their artwork. With leaves turning shades of gold, orange, red and brown, there has been no shortage of inspiration!
Forest School offers such wonderful opportunities for children to observe the changing seasons, explore their creativity and enjoy learning in the fresh air.

Looking Ahead
Although we've only just returned from our two-week half-term break, the children have already thrown themselves back into school life with enthusiasm. We're looking forward to seeing where their curiosity and imagination take them over the coming weeks as we head towards the end of the autumn term.
