Conkers, Clay and a Celebration of Harvest
It has been a wonderful start to the new school year at Peaslake Free School, and it has been lovely to see the children settle back into school life so happily.
We have been especially proud of our new Reception children, who have taken the start of school in their stride. Almost all have joined us from Peaslake Nursery, making the transition into Reception feel wonderfully seamless. They are already growing in confidence, getting to know their new routines and making the most of all the opportunities to learn through play.
Reception have particularly enjoyed exploring their continuous provision. Our light board has been a firm favourite, with the children using conkers, autumn leaves, sparkly objects and other treasures to create patterns, count, sort and investigate. 🍁✨
The beautiful September weather has also meant plenty of time outdoors. Sunny afternoons at Forest School have given the children opportunities to explore, create and, of course, get thoroughly muddy! Clay has proved especially popular, inspiring lots of imaginative creations.
Oak Class have been taking inspiration from the natural world too. In Science, they have been learning all about plants, while in Art they have been looking closely at natural objects and developing their observational drawing skills. 🌱✏️
Another very popular addition this term is our new sandpit, built over the summer. Much bigger than its predecessor, it has room for more children to play together – and for some considerably more ambitious digging, building and creating! 🪣
This week, we came together for our Harvest Celebration at St Mark's Church. The children sang their hearts out and did a fantastic job of reading their lines in front of an audience of parents and grandparents. We were also delighted to have the nursery children sitting at the front to watch – hopefully getting a little glimpse of what they can look forward to when they reach school! 🌾🎶
It was a lovely celebration and a fitting way to round off such a happy first few weeks of the new school year.
