A new school year in Year 2
The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for the children to get back together with their friends and share what they have done during the long Summer holidays. It is also an ideal time to develop their geographical knowledge by taking time to look at a world map to find some of the countries they have visited and identify which continents they are in, as well as looking at any surrounding seas or oceans.
‘Street Detectives’ is the topic for the first half of this term and over the following weeks the children will have the opportunity to investigate our local area, learn to read a map and find out historical facts about some of the buildings in the village.
This will enable the children to develop their writing of non-fiction, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop their creativity through recreating some of the buildings on clay tiles.
After half-term our topic will change to ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’, which I am sure they will really enjoy!
